What Does PDF Compression Do?

PDF compression reduces file size by optimising how data is stored inside the PDF. This tool re-encodes embedded JPEG photos at a lower quality and, where they are very large, a lower resolution. It also compresses page data that was saved without compression and packs the file's internal structure more tightly. Pages are not converted into images, so text and vector graphics stay as they are.

Which Compression Level Should I Choose?

  • Low keeps photos close to their original quality. Use it for documents you plan to print.
  • Medium balances size and quality and suits most email attachments and online forms.
  • High gives the smallest file, with softer photos. Use it when a portal has a strict upload size limit.

Will PDF Compression Reduce Quality?

It depends on the original PDF. Text and vector drawings are left unchanged. Embedded photos may lose some detail, more so at higher compression levels. Check the downloaded file before sharing it if image clarity matters.

Are My PDF Files Uploaded?

No. The PDF is read and compressed locally in your browser using your device's processing. It is not uploaded to ToolBandhu's server.

Why Didn't My PDF Become Smaller?

Some PDFs are already optimised, contain mostly text, or use image formats this tool does not re-encode. Processing such files can give little or no reduction, and occasionally a slightly larger file. When that happens, the tool tells you and keeps your original file as the download instead.
