JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 25.00 MB.

How to compress an image

  1. 1

    Add your image

Drag and drop a JPG, PNG or WebP file onto the upload area, or tap it to pick a photo from your device.

  2. 2

    Choose quality

Move the quality slider. Lower values make a smaller file; 70-80% is a good balance for most photos.

  3. 3

    Resize if needed

Optionally cap the longest edge in pixels. Resizing is often the fastest way to reach a portal upload limit.

  4. 4

    Download the result

Compare the original and compressed sizes, then save the new image. Your original file stays untouched.

Understanding image compression

What is image compression?

Compression rewrites a picture so it takes fewer bytes to store. Lossy formats such as JPG and WebP drop detail the eye barely notices, which is why a photo can shrink dramatically while still looking the same on screen. Resizing removes pixels outright and usually saves even more.

Privacy and browser-based processing

Your image is decoded and re-encoded by your own browser using the canvas API. It is never uploaded to a ToolBandhu server, so ID scans, certificates and personal photos stay on your device. Speed therefore depends on your phone or computer.

Which format should you pick?

  • JPG — best for photographs and the format most portals accept.
  • WebP — smaller than JPG at similar quality, ideal for websites.
  • PNG — lossless, best for logos, screenshots and sharp text.

When should you compress?

  • Meeting a strict upload size limit on an application form.
  • Speeding up a website by serving lighter images.
  • Emailing or messaging photos without hitting attachment caps.
  • Freeing up storage on your phone or laptop.
