What is an Income Tax Calculator?
It estimates tax from the income and eligible deductions you enter. It is a planning aid, not a tax-return filing system.
Tax Year 2026–27 · Income-tax Act, 2025
Calculate your income tax in India for Tax Year 2026–27. Compare Old and New Tax Regime estimates for salary, deductions, HRA, rebate, surcharge and cess.
Tax Year 2026–27 covers income earned from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027 under the Income-tax Act, 2025. Assessment Year 2026–27 instead concerns FY 2025–26 income under the Income-tax Act, 1961. This calculator provides an estimate for normal-rate income. Special-rate income and complex tax situations may require separate calculation.

Important: This is an estimator for normal-rate income, not tax advice or a filing system. Specified capital gains, lottery winnings, donation-category validation, carried-forward losses and other complex situations may require separate calculation.
₹12,75,000 salary − ₹75,000 standard deduction = ₹12,00,000 taxable income. Under the New Regime, the slab tax is ₹60,000 and Section 156 (formerly 87A) can rebate that amount for an eligible resident individual. This assumes only normal-rate income and no special-rate income.
Use these amounts in the calculator to compare regimes. Each assumes a resident below 60, salary-only normal-rate income, no extra deductions, and no special-rate income unless you change the inputs.
It estimates tax from the income and eligible deductions you enter. It is a planning aid, not a tax-return filing system.
Compare both regimes using the same income, age and residential status. In Detailed mode, add your eligible salary exemptions and deductions; the calculator applies the supported amounts separately for each regime. Review annual tax, the estimated difference and each detailed breakdown rather than comparing slab rates alone.
Gross salary includes the full employer NPS contribution before exemptions and standard deduction. If your salary figure excludes it, choose that option in Detailed mode; the contribution is added once before the eligible deduction. Taxable income is the amount remaining after the calculator combines normal-rate income, makes supported salary and house-property adjustments, and subtracts applicable deductions. Each regime's breakdown shows this amount separately; it is not the same as take-home pay.
Income after exemptions and house-property adjustments is reduced by standard deduction and eligible deductions. Total income is rounded under Section 516 before testing slabs, rebate and surcharge thresholds. Final tax including cess is rounded to ₹10 after discarding paise; intermediate amounts are not rounded.
Eligible salary receives up to ₹75,000 under the new regime or ₹50,000 under the old regime. The deduction cannot exceed salary after exemptions.
Eligible residents can receive up to ₹60,000 in the new regime at taxable income up to ₹12 lakh, or ₹12,500 in the old regime up to ₹5 lakh.
Marginal relief limits sudden additional tax immediately after the new-regime rebate threshold and applicable surcharge thresholds.
Old-regime HRA exemption is the least of actual HRA, rent above 10% of eligible salary, or 50% of salary for an eligible metro and 40% otherwise.
Detailed mode supports inputs for 80C, 80D, 80E, 80G, 80TTA, 80TTB and NPS (legacy names; current Sections 123, 126, 129, 133, 153 and 124), alongside salary exemptions and house-property income. Supported limits and regime restrictions are applied, but a cap does not establish your eligibility. Verify the deductible amount before entering it, particularly for donations, health insurance and employer NPS contributions.
₹12,75,000 salary minus ₹75,000 standard deduction equals ₹12,00,000 taxable income. For an eligible resident with no special-rate income, slab tax may be offset by Section 156 (formerly 87A) rebate.
This estimator covers normal-rate individual income. It excludes special-rate calculations and cannot verify documents, donation categories, carried-forward losses or every filing circumstance.
